Rover Section Annual Report 2010/2011
In Rovers this year we had 9 members.
Due to half being in Leaving Cert and half in First year of college we didn’t have many events but the ones we did were brilliant.
We travelled as a group to bunratty castle for one of their medieval banquets. This was a great night out and we all had a great laugh.
Members of The Rover Crew have attended leader training including child protection.
In 2011 one of our Rovers Luke McAndrew was the first in the group and one of the first ever outside Dublin/Cork that was successful in his application to go to the world scout centre in Kanderstag. dHe went over for 3 months and lead many hikes up the Alps. He really had the experience of a lifetime.
Four of our Rovers went to the Oxygen festival and worked putting up tents for a good portion of same with 40 Rovers from all over the country.
The Rovers raised €10000 for charity from this work and had good fun and saw great bands as well.
Brian Shaw attended the WSJ in Sweden as a member of the International Service Team (Staff). Brian had another “experience of a lifetime” – working on the People Programme Module.
Members of the Rover section helped out on camps and activities with the younger sections and helped out with the bag pack and church gate collection.
As well as all this they managed to great leaving cert results with one Brian Shaw getting 600 points and Joe Kelly 590 being the two highest in Collaiste Pobal. Well done to all.
September 2009 will see the Group formally launch its Rover Section for 18 + year olds. The first 5 members of the Section will be Niamh Abbott, David McGrath, Alan O’Brien, Claire McGrath and Kate Lupton. The 5 will also be registered leaders in the Group and will provide support to the Beaver, Cub, Scout and Venture Leader Teams.
Mentoring support to the Rovers will be provided by Francis Minogue Group Leader, James Marks and Tony Foyle Deputy Group Leaders and Ger O'Meara.
