Introduction

 

The purpose of the Group Development Plan is to set out both the vision and the methods by which effective, exciting, safe and fun Scouting will be delivered in Roscrea.

 

 

The Vision

 

The 4 key elements of the Group Development Plan are:

 

  1. The provision of quality five cylinder scouting to meet the needs of the youth of the community from 6 to 26 years of age (in line with Scouting Ireland’s expanded upper age limit)

 

  1. To be an integral part of the community.

 

  1. To develop teenagers and young adults into the next generation of leaders of the Group and community.

 

  1. To provide excellent scouting facilities for the delivery of the Group programme.

 


Group Operational Points

 

  1. At least 5 Group Councils to be held during the year
  2. Each Section to have Programme Planning Meetings at least once a quarter
  3. Srahan Committee to meet quarterly to ensure delivery of Srahan Development Project.
  4. Group to attend all County & National Meetings
  5. Each Section to have an end of year Camp (Beavers 1 Night; Cubs 3 Nights & Scouts/Ventures/Rovers 8 Nights)
  6. Fundraising to take place in line with Budget
  7. Parents & Friends Group to continue in operation
  8. Each Section to have Investiture Ceremony before end of Feb 2012
  9. Personnel Progression Passport Records to be maintained by each Section for each Youth member.
  10. File of Programme Plans to be submitted to Group Leader / PRO
  11. Role of Assistant Group Leader to be expanded to ensure support to the Group Leader as the Group grows. Consideration to be given to appointing a second/third AGL.

 

 


Key Objectives for 2011 / 2012

 

2010/2011 saw Youth membership expand to 160 with the addition in November 2010 of 3 New Section. Adult Scouters & Rovers now number 60. In 2011/12 it is expected that membership will grow further to 180 youth.

 

The key objectives for the coming year are as follows:

 

  1. The provision of single, integrated, exciting, fun and education youth programme for all youth members in the 8 programme sections.
  2. To further develop tools and techniques for the successful ongoing running of the ONE Programme ensuring the badge/progress schemes are a cornerstone of each sections programme.
  3. To develop knowledge and programme options across the 9 Adventure Skills covering the entire age range.
  4. To encourage all youth members to take on the challenge of the Chief Scout Award and Presidents Awards.
  5. Youth Participation to continue to be placed at the centre of its Section’s Programme.
  6. To develop links to past members
  7. To organise one/two leader social activities during the year.
  8. To ensure sufficient training is undergone by all Adult Scouters in the Group,.
  9. To develop the activity/campsite activities at Srahan.
  10. The build on the work of 2010-11 in developing further a vibrant and supportive Parents & Friends Group to support the Adult Scouters.
  11. To maintain the improved image / profile of Scouts in the local community through the regular use of the local media and our newly established web presence.
  12. To improve the gear storage arrangements at the Scout Hall.
  1. To ensure all Youth members have the opportunity to take place in a least one community based project during the year. Element of Group Fundraising to be set aside to support a Rover/Venture Community Project.
  1. To review how “spiritual” matters are best addressed in the programme.
  2. To achieve as high as possible a result in the SQS review.
